I love discovering new authors!  This week it was Erica Ruth Neubauer.  The cover of her book caught my eye as I walked past a display at our local library.  It reminded me of locales typical of Turkey and sure enough, the title was “Intrigue in Istanbul (A Jane Wunderly Mystery)”.  I didn’t realize that this was part of a series (and not the first one unfortunately) but I was happy to find that out because now I can enjoy more of her mysteries and her characters.  I’ll just have to go back to the beginning, “Murder at the Mena House” to find out how it all starts!

The Jane Wunderly books are historical mysteries set in the 1920’s.  “Intrigue in Istanbul” is the fourth in the series where Jane and her fiancé, Redvers (a complicated and mysterious figure himself!) discover that Jane’s widowed father is missing from his home in Boston and has borrowed a large sum of money against the family home, and the bank is about to call in the loan.  Jane has only three weeks to find her father and get the money back to the bank.  The trail leads to Istanbul and then to Hungary via the Orient Express (aren’t you hooked already??).  It is a tale of twists and turns, international intrigue, fascinating characters, and a satisfying ending!  Enough tension to keep things interesting, fascinating locales,  and characters you will want to see more of!
